Best Game of Thrones Quotes Season 2 Episode 4

Best Quotes from Season 2 Episode 4 of Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones Season 2 continues to bring fewer quotes per episode than Season 1 did, it’s true, but this episode had a bit of everything – at high quality – to make up for it. Here are our best quotes from Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode 4.

1. “I could swear that I had not harmed a single hair on his head, but that would not, strictly speaking, be true” – Tyrion Lannister

Lancel comes banging at Tyrion’s door to demand the release of Pycelle, who he had imprisoned for feeding his secrets to Cersei. Lancel says he is here at the behest of Cersei and, after a lengthy talk, secures the release of the Grand Maester. Tyrion’s last words to Lancel are this quote, which is more than just a common phrase; Tyrion literally harmed the hair on Pycelle’s head when he had his beard sliced off by Bronn.

2. “Shadows cannot live in the dark, Ser Davos. They are servants of light. The children of fire. And the brighter the flame, the darker they are” – Lady Melisandre

Lady Melisandre schools Davos on shadows in the eyes of the Lord of Light’s religion. She says, truly enough, that they are the children of fire, born from their light. And the brighter the flame is, the darker the shadow it produces will be. She says this before giving birth to a Shadow-like creature to murder Renly with.

3. “There’s no cure for being a cunt” – Bronn

Plain and simple from Bronn, as usual. Tyrion is seeking for a way, a cure, to take Joffrey’s mind off of torment and brutality. Bronn has a simple response for this, and one that’s quite difficult to put up an argument about.

4. “I am one of the 13, and I am still speaking” – Xaro Xhoan Daxos

Xaro throws the claimed democracy of the Thirteen back in the face of The Spice King, after being told that the 13 have spoken on not letting Daenerys and her flock of Dothraki into Qarth before he had given his opinion. It’s him stepping forward that likely saved the lives of Dany and her dragons.

5. “But a man without friends is a man without power” – Lord Renly Baratheon

Renly and Stannis’ awkward stand-off in neutral ground to try and work out some sort of truce shows the two opposites squabbling as you’d expect them to. Renly says how Stannis never wanted any friends, calling this a mistake as friends bring you power. This certainly seems to be the case in this situation as Renly outnumbers Stannis heavily due to the support of the Tyrells and their bannermen.

6. “In my family we say, “A naked man has few secrets. A flayed man none.” – Roose Bolton

The ominous banner of House Bolton portraying a flayed man has an equally ominous saying, it seems. When Robb and Roose Bolton are talking about the officers they have captured and how it’s possible they know battle plans of the Lannisters, Bolton suggests flaying them to remove them of these secrets. Robb disagrees though, saying he doesn’t want to give the Lannisters an excuse to torture their captured men.
