Game of Thrones is certainly renowned for being very quotable, with countless funny quotes, epic quotes, and everything in between. Here are our best Game of Thrones quotes from Season 1 Episode 2.
1. “You might not have my name, but you have my blood” – Ned Stark
Just as Jon departs from the pack heading to King’s Landing to pursue his own future on the Wall, Ned acknowledges him as his own blood, something that was absent previously to this.
2.“That’s what men always say when honor calls. That’s what you tell your families, tell yourselves” – Catelyn Stark
After Ned tells Cat he had no choice about heading to King’s Landing and leaving her to serve as Hand of the King, she conjures a very poignant line that resonates hard. It’s easy to tell yourself duty should come before self, but Cat challenges this and implores Ned not to leave.
3. “Bessie! Thank the gods for Bessie! And her tits!” – Robert Baratheon
Who else but Robert would thank the Seven for Bessie’s tits? He has some hilariously outlandish quotes in Season 1, but this might just be one of the best Robert quotes.
4. “First lesson: Stick ‘em with the pointy end” – Jon Snow
Jon and Arya share a wholesome moment as Jon says his farewells to everyone, leaving Arya with a present of her first sword, Needle. Tailor-made for a smaller fighter like herself, Jon drops the first piece of fighting knowledge on Arya in iconic fashion.
5. “And go celibate? The whores would go begging from Dorne to Casterly Rock. No, I just want to stand on top of the wall and piss off the edge of the world” – Tyrion Lannister
Tyrion’s response to being asked if he’s thinking of taking the black is perfect. He jokingly over-values his status as a sex fiend, claiming his celibacy would torment the whores, while revealing his own infantile, though rather interesting activity nonetheless, reason for wanting to go to the Wall.
6. “Death is so final, whereas life, ah, life is full of possibilities” – Tyrion Lannister
A great piece of wisdom from Tyrion. No matter how bad life may seem, it comes with endless possibilities that could totally change someone’s outlook or situation. Death, on the other hand, is absolute and final.
7. “And a mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone” – Tyrion Lannister
One of Tyrion’s best and most famous quotes. When Jon asks him why he reads so much, Tyrion replies that, much like Jaime has his sword as his weapon, Tyrion’s gift is his mind, and much like a weapon a mind needs to be sharpened. Books are his choice to do so.
8. “Sansa can keep her sewing needles; I’ve got a needle of my own” – Arya Stark
The naming of Arya’s blade is manufactured by her comparing her sister’s needles, with which she excels at textiles with, to her own one. Having never mastered the lady-like arts like Sansa, Arya decides her Needle will be her sword, and what a legacy Needle goes on to have.
9. “He ran. Not very fast” – The Hound
After an unpleasant incident at an Inn on the way to King’s Landing involving Arya’s direwolf, Nymeria, hurting the Prince, the butcher’s boy involved is killed by The Hound. Ned asks him, upon seeing the boy’s corpse, if The Hound rode him down, to which Sandor replies in the most apt way for his character.
